Engineering Judgment in Practice: The City of Roswell Reflects on Solutions Outside the Norm

The city of roswell, GA, USA, which is more than 150 years old, is a suburban municipality of 87,000 residents located just north of Metropolitan Atlanta. The Roswell Department of Transportation (DOT) prides itself on applying engineering judgment to solve the city's transportation-related challenges. Below are examples of some of our challenges, our thought process, and our resulting solutions. We consider these to be "context sensitive solutions," which we hope will give other municipalities the confidence to explore all of their resources when faced with difficult issues.
