Motorist Understanding of Selected Warning Signs

This study's findings that the identified warning signs are poorly understood are in general agreement with the findings reported in other similar studies of motorist understanding of traffic control devices. However, there is evidence to suggest that the results of this study might overstate the general population's understanding of certain warning signs. One source of this potential bias is the sample data, which probably reflects the perceptions of mature, experienced drivers in Kansas. For example, drivers 16-24 years of age and drivers older than 65 appear to be underrepresented in the sample.
