Pena Sets ITS Goal

On Jan. 10, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Federico Pena announced his goal to implement an "intelligent transportation infrastructure" in the 75 largest metropolitan areas over the next 10 years. The goal is the cornerstone of the "Operation Timesaver" program unveiled by the Secretary at the annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) in Washington, D.C. Pena also made a similar commitment to upgrading technology in 450 other communities, on rural roads, and on inter-states, as needed.
