The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is preparing this report to reflect the current state-of-the-practice and to provide the user with a broad overview of key considerations for the preemption of traffic signals near railroad grade crossings. This report was developed in accordance with formally adopted ITE procedures that are designed to help ensure that a representative cross section of parties is given an opportunity to provide input These proposed guidelines are advisory only. This report is being published as a proposed recommended practice of ITE to be considered in its proposed form, but is subject to change after receipt and consideration of suggestions from those who have reviewed the report.
