AS backup WindOWS continue to shrink and the amount of data that needs to be protected continues to grow, backup processes are requiring more and more LAN bandwidth, as well as server memory and CPU cycles. But the need for higher availability levels means there's less flexibility when it comes to taking down applications―or even experiencing a drop in performance or a bandwidth bottleneck―so that the server can turn to the task of backup operations. Once data is backed up, you need an efficient way of restoring it. But data restore operations can consume the same amount of time and resources―if not more―as backing up the data in the first place.
