Time to Update Carcinogen Risk Assessment

On April 23, 1996, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed new carcinogen risk assessment guidelines (61 FR 17960) to replace the current ones that have been in effect since 1986. The guidelines themselves do not regulate anything, but they influence the way in which EPA and others use scientific information in regulatory activities, and they reflect a significant evolution in the way that the government looks at risk.
