摘要

As business environments undergo rapid changes, organizations the world over have to redefine their business goals. Quite often, businesses need to revamp their business strategies, organization structures and operation frameworks, and reassess their information and infrastructure needs. Competitive pressures, rising expectations from global customers and the emergence of newer technologies, especially in the area of telecommunication, have accelerated the process of change management. An early response to upcoming challenges is the key success factor that determines the position the organization can take in the changed market scenario. Diversification, business expansions, acquisitions, mergers and business process reengineering are some of the effective strategies adapted by management to counter the new challenges. The sweeping changes carried out in a short span of time also carry inherent risks in all areas of business, including the area of technology. Disasters as seen in the US on 11 September 2001 and certain corporate governance failures have sent signals to organizations to ensure control before they go in for a rapid-change strategy.
