A computational inverse technique for determination of encounter condition on projectile penetrating multilayer medium

Striking velocity and oblique angle are known as encounter condition, and penetration depth and state angle are known as projectile state in the projectile/multilayer medium system. In the process of projectile penetrating multilayer medium, how to determine the encounter condition through the given projectile state is an unsolved problem. In this article, a computational inverse technique is presented to deal with this problem. In this technique, the determination of encounter condition is formulated as an inverse problem, in which it can be determined by minimizing error function formulated using the given projectile state and that computed by the forward solver. Two types of the given projectile state (deterministic and uncertain) are considered, and corresponding inverse techniques are developed. Approximation model method, trust region method and Newtown's method are adopted as the deterministic inverse technique. And based on it, interval analysis and intergeneration projection genetic algorithm are employed as the uncertainty inverse technique.
