To date there have been more than 35 attacks or attempted attacks by dissident republicans in 2010, compared to 22 in 2009. Due to this, threat levels in Northern Ireland remain at "severe". The threat level posed by dissident republicans to the UK has been scaled up from "moderate" to "substantial", with attacks in the UK mainland a strong possibility. The RIRA recently threatened to target banks and other financial institutions in the City of London, accusing them of "financing Britain's colonial and capitalist system".
