On 7 July 2005 - the day after the jubilant citizens of London celebrated winning the 2012 Olympic bid - a series of terrifying explosions ripped through the nation's capital. Fifty-six people were killed in the attacks, and almost 700 were injured. It was the deadliest bombing in London since the Second World War - and the first time the UK had ever experienced suicide terrorism. In a martyrdom statement that followed, one of the suicide bombers, Shehzad Tanweer coldly announced: "What you have witnessed now is only the beginning of a string of attacks that will continue and become stronger..." In a second video the group's ring-leader, Mohammed Sidique Khan, stared callously into the lens of a camera and defiantly told the world: "We will not stop this fight... We are at war and I am a soldier. Now you too will taste the reality of this situation".
