Pakistan tenders to import 25,000 tonnes of white sugar

State-owned Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) issued a tender in early September '09 to import 25,000 tonnes of white sugar from global sources. Domestic sugar prices have been rising sharply in recent weeks and the government has tried to deflect criticism and boost supplies by cracking down on hoarders and millers whom it accuses of holding back stocks. "Both pre-qualified and non-prequalified foreign suppliers who can supply sugar from worldwide sources can offer bids," a TCP spokesman said. "The bids should be received by September 30 and will be opened the same day."
