Argentina's Subtronic SA has contracted AXYS Technologies, Canada, to supply a WatchKeeper oceanographic and meteorological data collection buoy. The 1.7-metre diameter buoy will support offshore oil and gas exploration activities in approximately 100 metres of water. "The solar-powered WatchKeeper is equipped with a variety of sensors, including sea temperature, directional waves, currents, wind speed and direction, relative humidity and air temperature," said an AXYS spokesman. "Data from the sensors is collected by AXYS' proprietary WatchMan500 data acquisition system and transmitted to a shore station by Iridium and/or Inmarsat D+ satellite telemetry.
