摘要

This book offers some intriguing and instructive insights into a subject that we think we know much about, but that the author addresses in an original way that is deserving of renewed attention. It is a study introducing a characteristic line of research, interpretive commentary and social involvement.Bollens' reasoning attempts to combine two key processes and their corresponding interpretations. The first is the conflict arising from national, ethnic or intercultural confrontation. The other is the city, and the peculiar phenomenon of social coexistence that may (and in some sense, must) develop locally based agreement in at least a limited way in order to overcome the manifestations of conflict that seem to dominate on the social macro scale.
