A brief history of the IAHE biohydrogen division and notice of upcoming biohydrogen symposium and biohydrogen division meeting

1. Founding of the biohydrogen division The Biohydrogen Division really began through an initiative of Dr. David Levin, who quickly found like-minded researchers within the hydrogen energy community who saw a need to organize a special division bringing together scientists in this field to establish a network and to promote this area. The IAHE approved the formation of a division and the first organizational meeting of interested persons was held in Taiwan in conjunction with the Asian Bio-HyLinks meeting in October 2010. In attendance were the Ad Hoc Committee members; Songhong Park (Pusan National University, Korea), Guangyi Wang (University of Hawaii, USA), Patrik Jones (University of Turku, Finland), Patrick Hallenbeck (University of Montreal, Canada), Chiu Yue Lin (Feng Chia University, Taiwan), David Levin (University of Manitoba, Canada). At this meeting the by-laws were adopted and the Ad Hoc members agreed to act as a nominating committee to elect officers. Candidates' files were received by the committee in January 2011 and voting was held by email. Dr. Patrick C. Hallenbeck was elected as President and, according to the rules established for this initial, unique election, the other officers of the division were nominated by the president-elect and approved by the nominating committee. Through this process, Dr. David Levin and Dr. Pieternel Claassen were chosen as the other officers of the Biohydrogen Division. Future elections will be held according to the division bylaws.
