摘要

This is popular science written by a scientist's scientist who understands the limitations of his environment very well indeed. The most telling part may be p. 76. Here Boyden reports that the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) records the biggest single component of an Australian's time budget to be 'watching television, video'. Boyden notes that this 'activity' takes 3 hr p.d., 'or nearly 20 per cent of wakeful hours'. He also notes that 'many people' spend 50% of their 'wakeful hours' on television or the Internet.rnBoyden records also that the ABS finds that adult Australians give half an hour a day (sic) to 'sport, exercise and outdoor activities'; and that 44% of adults are 'sedentary, or largely inactive'.
