摘要

This short paper is intended to summarise the findings of an external evaluation carried out at three UK universities as part of an IET/HEFCE-funded project aimed at introducing a problem-based learning (PBL) approach to learning and teaching. Around 200 students took part in the project, each of whom was engaged in either BEng or MEng programmes of study in electronic and electrical engineering. The scope of the external evaluation was to consider the effectiveness of implementation at each of the three participating universities over a three-year period. A mixed-methods approach was employed in carrying out the evaluation, which included expert reviews, studying achievement of objectives, quantitative and qualitative investigations, face-to-face discussions with individuals and groups, focus groups and semi-structured interviews.
