NEW APPLIANCES AND SYSTEMS FOR WOBBE INDEX MEASURING AND REGULATING IN INDUSTRY

One of the counterparts to the supply guarantee, variations in the composition of the natural gas distributed may be disruptive to some high temperature processes and can lead to regulation and adjustment difficulties that are detrimental to production quality. For the last twenty-five years Gaz de France has contributed to the development of a range of technical solutions that remedy the effect of these variations. This on-going process has recently led to the design and implementation of a new range of equipment and Wobbe index measuring or regulating systems and, consequently, to the preparation of a corresponding service offer. After reviewing the origin of variations in gas characteristics and their impact on various industrial thermal processes, we shall present the new Wobbe index measuring appliance that has been developed, together with related equipment and systems. Through examples of industrial applications, we shall show how the latter make up a range of technical solutions that Gaz de France is implementing to improve the service offered to its industrial customers.
