Epilepsy in literature: epilepsy as an element of literary structure

Epilepsy has been known since the earliest historical times, and its medical accounts have always found parallels in other texts such as literary or legal ones. Together they form the cultural history of epilepsy. Works of fiction may covey important information about images and public views of epilepsy, which are not found in medical textbooks. The fourth and final article in this series looks at the description of doctors and the treatment of epilepsy in literature.
