France Prepares For Public Debate This Fall On Risks, Regulation Of Nanotechnologies

The forum, which will be managed by France's independent national commission for public debate, will address conditions under which nanotechnologies can be developed and regulated, and will involve experts, officials, and the public. The commission will report its conclusions to the government, the ministry said. The Ministry of Ecology said the debate is required by Article 37 of the so-called Grenelle 1 draft bill, which is being considered by Parliament. That article also sets out rules requiring registration of nanomaterials (32 INER 81, 2/4/09).
