TTIP Must Not Dilute EU's Environmental Safeguards, U.K. Committee Says

Environmental regulations in the European Union are in danger of being weakened if "laxer" U.S. regulations are "mutually accepted" in a future Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, a U.K. parliamentary committee said in a March 10 report. "The focus in TTIP has been on its potential for boosting transatlantic trade, but that must not be at the expense of throwing away hard-won environmental and public-health protections," Joan Walley, the chair of the Environmental Audit Committee (EAC), said in a statement supporting release of the report.
