Opening the door to new dye development

The European Union (EU) is funding an international research project that is developing new fast ways of making colloids -mixtures of one substance comprising insoluble microscopic particles suspended in another substance. These materials can include dyes, but the process of making colloids can be very slow, limiting industrial applications. Researchers in the €3 million MICROFLUSA project want to speed up the creation of colloids, designing new processes that can order colloid-based particle clusters into forming well-defined configurations. That can result in standardised dye applications, for instance.
