New ways of serving our communities

Radio reaches more than 90% of households in Latin America and the Caribbean and it does so, mostly, from local broadcasters, with local programmes and in the language and the accent of their communities. Most of the hundreds of radio stations that exist in this region still belong to independent broadcasters, who struggle against the concentration of communications in the hands of a few big multimedia companies that tend to direct the majority of the written and electronic media.%La radio llega al 90% de los hogares en América Latina y el Caribe y lo hace, mayoritariamente, desde emisoras locales, con programación propia, en el idioma y con el acento cultural de las comunidades. La mayoría de los cientos de radioemisoras que existen en la región todavía son independientes, y luchan con firmeza contra la concentración de las comunicaciones en las manos de unos pocos grandes multimedios que tienden a adueñarse de la mayor parte de los medios escritos y electr╚畁icos.
