Viewing a streaming video clip on a domestic modem at 56K, or worse still at 28K, has until now been hugely disappointing. Blurry, jerky images presented on a postage stamp screen with sound as if recorded under water. Then there are the inevitable hiccups caused by net congestion. But recent technical developments and new corporate alliances mean all this could be about to change.
