For several months now, BBC News has been undertaking trials of news services on mobile phones. Using Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), we have been giving consumers the opportunity to download in several minutes short news stories in text form which they could obtain in seconds on BBC News Online and Ceefax. Using short messaging and dial-up audio, we have be inviting a trial group of Radio 1 listeners to use their mobile phone to listen to stories which they could also hear by listening to the network's Newsbeat programme.
