International news in the twenty-first century

When Professor Annabelle Sreberny and I took on the challenge of bringing media researchers together with journalists and media executives to debate the future of international news, we expected a challenge. We weren't disappointed, but we were also delighted with the results. We hope to publish a collection of the research presented at our March, 2000, conference in future months, but here I offer Intermedia readers a overview of what was (as far as we can tell) the first event in many years bringing news professionals together with academic researchers to enter into a (research-based) dialogue about the future of news.
