Wireless Local Area Networks and the European 3G tragedy

It is by now obvious to all that Europe has fallen behind in the one part of the Information Society agenda in which until 2000 it unambiguously led: mobile telephony. South Korea, Japan and China are already far ahead in deployment and use of advanced CDMA networks on which third generation mobile technology is being built. For instance, Korea's cdma2000 1x networks offer 144Kb/s standard download speeds and 256kb/s on the 'June' cdma2000 1xEV-DO network of SK Telecom.
