Can market liberalisation harness the world's poorest Continent to the global information economy? The question now is whether and how Africa will get the maximum benefit from the global tide of privatisation and liberalisation that is at last (after years of indecision) sweeping through most African telecommunications markets. That Africa has to follow the route of privatisation and liberalisation, is generally accepted, and its governments have been under great pressure from major donors and lenders like the World Bank to institute structural reform in this and in other Stae-owned industries.
