The 36th edition of Heimtextil, held in Frankfurt in January (and the first of six shows so branded to occur throughout the year around the globe) attracted 2,810 exhibitors (2,960 in 2005) from 73 countries. The fair in many ways reflected the changing structure of the furnishings and home textiles market as it adjusts to a new geography, challenging trading conditions, and an increase in sourcing activity. Official visitor numbers of 89,073 from 124 countries were slightly down on 2005. However, exhibitors who confirmed their satisfaction with results suggested that, though the footfall was lighter as a result of reduced buying teams and curtailed travel schedules, those making the trip to Germany were serious buyers. Some exhibitors mentioned that they had benefited from the loss of a number of participants. Prices it was maintained were not an issue. The ten most strongly represented visitor nations after Germany were Italy, followed by US, UK, Spain, Turkey, Greece, China, France, The Netherlands and Belgium/Luxembourg.
