Furniture for hotels, restaurants, offices and other public spaces can look "rather featureless," according to B&B Italia, so each of the pieces in the Project Collection, its new venture into the contract market, is designed to have a distinctive personality of its own. The company has had a contract division for the past 26 years, working with a range of international clients from hotels and stores to banks and cruise ships, but this is its first collection specifically designed for contract. There are nine products including chairs, sofas, benches and tables, and Emanuele Busnelli, managing director and son of the original co-founder, points out the importance of having a family of products in a wide choice of finishes to meet the needs of a changing market. "We are trying to come at this market in a different way, using the experience of our centre of research and the best international designers," he says.
