It is an 8000 m~2 timber over-skin carried by a metal frame, which shelters the technical installations necessary for the workshops before flowing down into a terrace for the restaurant. Steel structure is everywhere in evidence in the workshop areas, enabling easy and rational layout. The offices are more straightforward - straight-line volumes cut by paved patios planted with magnolias. On the environmental side, the unit is a good scorer. The low site is flood-prone, so rainwater running off roof and schist-paved parking areas is caught in basins to avoid overspills. The plant turns its sharp end to the prevalent north wind but opens up elsewhere to views and sunlight behind double glazing. Its squat form minimizes heat loss - an important point when you're at the foot of the Alps.
