UTILIDAD DE LAS TéCNICAS FLUORESCENCIA POLARIZADA Y DEL INMUNOENSAYO ENZIMáTICO DE COMPETENCIA PARA DIAGNóSTICO DE BRUCELOSIS EN CABALLOS PURASANGRE DE CARRERAS

The occurrence of brucellosis in thoroughbred racing horses was studied using the fluorescence polarization assay and competitive ELISA test, in order to determine the value of these techniques for the detection of antibodies in blood serum and to compare them with the bengal rose and buffered plate antigen tests. A total of 82 sera of from a husbandry in the municipality of Miranda, Zulia state, Venezuela, without any clinical, sero-logical or reproductive disease signs were analyzed. Based onrnan analysis of the status of the herd, negativity to the disease was proven. Given this result, the determination of a diagnostic threshold adapted to the conditions of the region was carried out. The results indicate that more than 85.3 milipolarization units for fluorescence polarization and >26.3% inhibition for ELISA-c are suggestive of disease in this species. The usefulness of the agglutination tests is questioned.%Se estudió la ocurrencia de brucelosis en sueros de caballos pu-rasangre de carreras mediante las pruebas de fluorescencia polarizada y de ELISA competitiva con el propósito de conocer la utilidad de estas técnicas de detección de anticuerpos y compararlas con los resultados de las pruebas rosa de bengala y antígeno tam-ponado en placa. Para ello se analizaron 82 sueros provenientes de un criadero del municipio Miranda del estado Zulia, Venezuela, sin antecedentes clínicos, reproductivos ni serológicos de la proble-rnmática. En base a un análisis integral de la situación del reba?o se demostró la negatividad a la enfermedad. Ante ese resultado, se procedió a la determinación de un umbral diagnóstico adaptado a las condiciones de la región. Estas proyecciones indican que resultados superiores a 85,3 unidades de milipolarización para fluorescencia polarizada e inhibición >26,3% para ELISA-c son sugestivos de enfermedad en esta especie. Se cuestiona la utilidad de las pruebas de aglutinación.
