EL SISTEMA ESPAÑOL DE TRASPLANTES: UN SISTEMA DE EXCELENCIA

En el año 2010 la Organización Nacional de Trasplantes de España recibió el premio Príncipe de Asturias por su labor de coordinación en el vital proceso de donación de órganos. El principal propósito de este artículo consiste en identificar los factores organizativos y de gestión que determinan el éxito del denominado 'modelo español'. Se ha seguido la metodología del caso, y se muestra el Sistema Nacional de Trasplantes como un caso ejemplar de gestión, especialmente teniendo en cuenta la complejidad de sus procesos y la necesidad de disponer de trabajadores intensivos en conocimiento que realizan tareas muy cualificadas en contextos que presentan una alta variabilidad. Los resultados muestran que el énfasis en la detección de órganos en las unidades de cuidados intensivos, el doble perfil del coordinador de órganos, a la vez coordinador y especialista médico, la formación de los profesionales, y la labor de coordinación y la gestión de la calidad de la Organización Nacional de Trasplantes, son factores críticos de éxito.%In 2010 the Spanish Transplant Organization received the Prince of Asturias Award due to their excellence in the coordination of the vital process of organ donation and transplant. The main purpose for this article consists of identifying the main managerial and organizational factors that determine the success of the so-called 'Spanish model'. The case study methodology has been followed, and it is shown that the National Transplant System is a system of excellence, specially having in mind the complexity of the processes and the need to count on knowledge intensive workers that perform highly qualified tasks in variable contexts. Results show that the attention paid to the process of organ detection in the intensive care units, the double specialization of the organ donation coordinators, as coordinators and medical specialists at the same time, the training programs, and the coordination efforts and the quality program provided by the Spanish Transplant Organization are critical success factors.
