Foi estudada a eficiência de remocao de matéria orgánica (MO) na forma da DQO (demanda química de oxigénio) e DQO (demanda bioquímica de oxigénio) em esgoto doméstico e efluentes de piscicultura semi-intensiva por meio de reatores aerobios de leito fluidizado trifásicos com circulacao em tubos concéntricos. Foram utilizadas trés diferentes relacoes entre as áreas externa e interna com diferentes configuracoes de diámetros internos (100; 125 e 150mm) num mesmo diámetro externo de 250mm; os meios suporte utilizados foram areia para filtros e carváo ativado granular. Os reatores foram ensaiados em três lempos de retencāo hidráulica: ll,5min para o R100, e de 3h para os reatores R125 e R150. Os resultados demonstraram que este tipo de reator apresenla bom desempenho na remocao da DBO e DQO para diferentes concentracoes das aguas re-siduárias. As eficiências médias de remocao da DBO obtidas foram: no reator R100 de 47%, no R125 de 57 e 93% da DBO bruta e filtrada respectivamente, no R150 de 48 e 89% da DBO bruta e filtrada. As remocoes médias calculadas da DQO foram: 75% para o R100, no R125 de 56 e 86% da DQO bruta e filtrada, e no Rl50 foram 54 e 86% da DQO bruta e filtrada. No caso do esgoto doméstico é necessário dispor de um sistema de remocao de sólidos na salda do reator para aumentar a remocao de MO em suspensáo do efluente final.%The organic matter (OM) removal efficiency in the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) forms for domestic wastewater and semi-intensive fish culture effluents by using three phase aerobic fluidized bed reactors with circulation in concentric tubes was studied. Three different ratios between external and internal areas by different internal diameter configurations (100, 125 and 150mm) to the same external diameter of 250mm were used; sand for filters and granulated activated carbon were used as supporting media. The reactors were tested for three hydraulic retention times: ll.Smin to the R100, and 3h for the R125 and R150 reactors. The results demonstrated that this kind of reactors had good performance in the BOD and COD removal for different concentrations of waste waters. BOD mean removal efficiencies obtained were: 47% at the R100 reactor, 57% and 93% of raw and filtered BOD respectively at R125, 48 and 89% of raw and filtered BOD at R150. The COD mean calculated removal efficiencies were: 75% at the R100 reactor, 56 and 86% of raw and filtered COD at R125, and 54 and 86% of raw and filtered COD at R150. In the case of domestic wastewater it is necessary to provide a solids removal system at the reactor outflow in order to increase the removal of suspended OMfrom the final effluent.
