DNA AND CHIPS: TOGETHER AT LAST...IN A DECADE

DNA origami is the new chip order of tomorrow, according to scientists at IBM Research and CalTech (the California Institute of Technology). They announced this month research that could eventually enable the semiconductor industry to pack more power and speed into ever smaller computer chips, while making those chips more energy efficient and less expensive to manufacture.rnIBM Almaden researchers and a team led by CalTech collaborator Paul W.K. Rothemund have combined lithographic patterning with self assembly- a method to arrange DNA origami structures on surfaces compatible with today's semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
