The issues of freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and, now, in 2010, the freedom to communicate, have all been in the news this month. Many of these issues were brought front and center to me by the news, early in the month, just before the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. That country shut down access to Google's Gmail and to Twitter. Reports followed that other communications had been disrupted and the speed of Internet access slowed nationwide in Iran, in a attempt to control anti-government talk, protests, etc.
