In my EDITORIAL last month, "Beyond Proof: Living in the New Age of Uncertainty - The Evidence for Evidence of Certainty Evaporates - Decline Effect," I was seriously remiss not to reference an early influence on my thinking about certainty and uncertainty. I am referring to the noted British zoologist and neurophysiologist, J. Z. Young (18 March 1907 - 4 July 1997). It was Young's Reith lectures of 1950, collected in the book: Doubt and Certainty in Science: A Biologist's Reflections on the Brain, that first motivated my serious contemplations upon the nature of uncertainty and certainty and the uncertainty of certainty.
