Facebookand neural networks: Following the lead of Google and several other companies, Facebook announced this month that it will be working with a team, led by neural network (NN) scientist Yann LeCun of NYU. LeCun's group, as reported in Wired: "LeCun will oversee the development of [NN] deep-learning tools that can help Facebook analyze data and behavior on its social networking service - and ultimately revamp the way [it] operates. With deep learning, Facebook could automatically identify faces in the photographs, automatically tag them with the right names, and instantly share them with [e.g.,] friends and family. Using similar techniques to analyze daily activity on the site, it could automatically show more" materials of personal interest to the specific Facebook user.
