In an ironic move that eerily reflects events before World War Ⅱ, concerning nuclear weapons, when Albert Einstein and others wrote to US President Roosevelt, urging him to support atomic weapons development "to beat the Germans," more than 1,000 experts in the fields of AI (artificial intelligence) and robotics have signed an open letter warning of an impending "military artificial intelligence arms race". The letter calls for a ban on "offensive autonomous weapons". The letter was signed by, among so many others, both Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking, both of whom have made public warnings about the dangers of AI over the past few months.
