The literature on private military security companies (PSCs) has long grappled with the problems arising from the increasingly blurred lines between the public and private in terms of security responsibilities and provisions. The space of private military and security is hard enough to define within a land-based theatre. Adding the legal and regulatory conundrums of the maritime sphere does not improve that, but it highlights the importance of the contribution made by this book.
