NDT in the Swedish nuclear power industry

In Sweden there are twelve nuclear power plants (see Table 1). In 1995 they produced 66.7 TWh, which is 46.6% of the Swedish total electrical production at 143 TWh. The Swedish nuclear corporations buy NDT services for close to 200 million SEK per year from Swedish NDT companies, thereby they are one of the major NDT consumers in Sweden. The security requirements and the special needs within the nuclear industry are urging development within the NDT field in Sweden. Different types of radioactive waste are created in the production of electricity in nuclear power plant. These are referred to as low, middle and hot disposal. The low and middle radioactive disposal mainly consist of filter mass and exchanged components from the operation. The hot waste principally consists of spent nuclear fuel.
