One of the main problems in acoustic emission analysis is the estimation of the time of occurrence and amplitude of bursts. Different methods were used, some of them based on a dynamic model of the signal and Kalman filtering techniques as estimators, other based on digital processing techniques as windowed Fourier transform or wavelet transforms. A new model of acoustic emission signals and an algorithm for estimating burst occurrence are described. The method is extended to the more general case where the bursts present more than one fundamental frequency. Results obtained are shown.
