The West Midlands Branch held its sixth meeting of the 2019/2020 session on the evening of 10 March 2020, at which John Skidmore of GB Inspection Systems (GBIS) Ltd gave a presentation, titled: 'Update on the latest ultrasonic equipment developments'. John began his presentation with a brief history of GBIS from the time it was founded in 1984. A big change came in 2012 when GBIS was bought by the current owner, Bowmonk Ltd. By then, new facilities were needed to accommodate growth. As John put it, employees had to take turns to breathe in! Since 2012, given the long-term and relatively significant investment that the new owner was able and willing to put in, the business has expanded in terms of sales, enabled by increases in head count and modernisation of manufacturing and test processes.
