International Institute of Welding NDT work in Commission V

We have included annual progress reports of the work of IIW Commission V in previous issues of the European Journal of NDT and this article summarises the current NDT Work Programmes. Although the IIW is totally international in its membership and activity, the work of Commission V ('Quality control and quality assurance of Welded Products') has historically centred on European support. Indeed, although the current Chairman of Commission V (Mr T A Siewert of the NIST in Boulder, Colorado) is the first non-European to hold the post since an NDT Commission was first established at the outset of IIW in 1948 (see INSIGHT Vol 36 No 5 May 1994 p364), the chairmen of the constituent Sub Commissions and their Working Parties are still all European based.
