Conwy Bridge - over 150 years old and looking good

Bridgeway Consulting, a specialist railway engineering services company, was contracted by Mouchel Parkman to inspect the historic Conwy railway bridge, and following a detailed examination reported that the structure is in remarkably good condition. Constructed in 1848, Conwy- tubular railway bridge carries the North Wales coast railway line across the River Conwy between Llandudno Junction and the town of Conwy. The wrought-iron tubular bridge was built by Robert Stephenson and is similar in construction to Stephenson's other famous tubular bridge, the Britannia Bridge, which crossed the Menai Strait. The inspection work took place in January 2006 and included roped-access inspection of the bridge towers, a specialised diving team for submerged structures, CCTV survey of internal elements, and a mobile scaffold for the internal and external faces of the tubing.
