So, you think your instrument is too heavy? Some of my ultrasonic testing students were grumbling about the weight of the instruments they had to carry around the piping racks in refineries, which got me to reminiscing about the early instruments with cathode ray tubes and 'valves'. We have a Krautkramer USIP 10 in the foyer of our building, so I weighed it and compared it with the digital instruments in today's market. It weighs 50.5 lbs (23 kg). I then weighed the diminutive Epoch 600: 3.72 lbs (1.68 kg)!
