Another visit to a 'different' NAMRC

The final Yorkshire Branch meeting of the season was held on 3 March, combined with the AGM. With the programme secretary making a significant change to his working life by swapping Sheffield for the pleasures of offshore Brazil on a pipe-laying barge, the Chair John Crossley pulled the rabbit out of the hat with another visit to the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (NAMRC). Having visited the site before, you would think that all we were doing was looking at the same machines again, but this wasn't the case. There is a constant change of machines as newer models are introduced and different projects are trailed. Only at the end of the visit were we informed that a lot of the current projects were for Rolls-Royce nuclear submarines and were secret. Prior to our visit, John had checked that there were no secret items being manufactured and, more importantly, that no fabrication drawings were visible - such is the need for security.
