The Roy Sharpe Prize is for significant contribution through research and development in any branch of NDT to the benefit of industry or society. This prize is awarded by the Technical Committee of the Institute and sponsored annually by an organisation in Corporate membership of the Institute. In 2015, the Roy Sharpe Prize was funded by the South West School of NDT and is awarded to Professor Dr Uwe Ewert. Professor Ewert is Head of the Radiological Methods Division at BAM, in Berlin, Germany. He obtained a diploma degree for physical and theoretical chemistry from the Humboldt University in Berlin in 1974. He received a PhD for simulation of electron spin resonance spectra in 1979. From 1980-1989, he managed the application laboratory for electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy at the Centre for Scientific Instruments of the Academy of Sciences in Berlin.
