This month's issue of Insight focuses on the energy industries. The production of electricity has undergone a remarkable change due to the efforts of environmentalists. Their opposition to fossil-fuelled power stations has led to the phasing out of coal-fired power stations and doubts about the long-term future of oil and gas stations. The future of nuclear generation is also problematic, but at least approval has now been given for a new reactor at Hinckley Point. The future of the industry is seen to depend more and more on solar power generation and the use of wind turbines. There have even been days recently when solar, wind and nuclear generation have stood alone for 24 hours.
