BINDT's conferences department will be having a busy year in 2017. We will be back to Telford on 5-7 September for the NDT 2017 Conference and Materials Testing Exhibition. The International Centre in Telford is one of the few venues with sufficient room for the exhibition and five parallel technical sessions. BINDT will also be hosting the First World Congress on Condition Monitoring in London from 13 to 16 June. I find it useful to attend these events as it helps me to identify technologies that we can use in order to reduce inspection times, reduce costs and improve quality. Often, a technology is available off-the-shelf, or we will see a good idea from an academic/catapult centre and, through working with them, we can further develop a useful technology and successfully commercialise it to gain competitive advantage. It also provides an opportunity for networking and the sharing of problems and potential solutions. BINDT's charitable aims mean we have subsidised student rates, applicable to MSc, EngD, PhD and apprentice attendances, meaning we can engage with the next generation of NDT/CM personnel. In addition to these major conferences, two other events, one on aerospace (Cambridge) and the other on automotive composites (Coventry) will also take place this year.
