The Energy Department's National Nuclear Security Administration plans to issue a new contract this year for JASON national security studies after the Pentagon discontinued its long-standing deal with the group of scientists. In an April 25 notice, NNSA states its intent to issue an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract to MITRE Corp. to support the JASON program through Jan. 31, 2020, allowing the scientists to complete this year's studies and brief customers on the findings. The contract is set to save the JASON program from potentially disbanding and abandoning its current slate of summer studies after the Pentagon's technology chief decided to discontinue the Defense Department's long standing contract with the group.
